Saw on Youtube later that how the novel that this movie was based upon came about was even more inspiring. Writer Andy Weir is a computer programming who is fascinated with space travel since young. He decided that he would write a book about landing human on Mars as he felt that the technology today is very close to achieving that. He tried to keep the technology described in the book as close to reality as possible. You know what, at first he post his ebook on his blog for free!
