Training the brain to think positively


Shawn Achor says that happiness leads to success and not the other way round. I like his metaphor of a lens for seeing happiness. Everyday, we are faced with some great events and some lousy events. If I put on my happy spectacles, I will see more of the happy events.

Shawn also mentioned about this 21-day method to instil a positive attitude: Do the following everyday for 21 days:

  1. Think of 3 things that you are gratified for.
  2. Journaling a positive experience from last 24 hours.
  3. Exercise teaches our brains that our behaviour matters.
  4. Meditation trains our brain to focus on one thing at a time.
  5. To perform random acts of kindness.
This is interesting. I will try it out.
