How Not to Have Fun

"I don't know how not to have fun..." ~ Randy Pausch

Wao! I have forgotten how to have fun. My parents and the school taught me from young about delayed gratification and that some form of sacrifice and suffering was inevitable. Press on long enough and we will see the fruits of labour, I was told. When in school, I was told playing can wait, school comes first. After challenging the authorities for some period, I gave in. I didn't think about extra-curricular activities, no money-making ways, anything to do with investment was unorthodox. I felt guilty when I didn't spend all my time before exams studying. After 20 odd years in the system, I was conditioned, moulded like the others, like in a production line.

I wished I was like Randy, allowed to paint his own room, had dreams and chased them, created his own course, did work that helped many others (students in his case), left a legacy, most importantly, he had fun while doing all these. Then again, what's stopping me now?
